Mary is the owner and principal consultant at Nutritional Perspectives. She helps individuals and families learn to eat healthfully and adopt positive lifestyle behaviors, achieving optimal function and well-being. Her approach is to support each client to be present in their lives and in their eating; to feel empowered to make choices that serve their best interests; to embrace flexibility and variety in food intake; and to enjoy and appreciate food in its culinary, social, and cultural aspects. She encourages a non-diet approach and recognition of internal hunger and satiety cues, and provides individualized “ground rules” for eating that provide structure and foster confidence. Mary holds an unfailing belief in each person’s ability to change and grow, reinforcing each step along the way, however small.

Mary holds a B.S. degree in Dietetics from Miami University in Oxford, OH, and an M.S. degree in Human Nutrition and Food Management from The Ohio State University. She is a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist, credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition. She is licensed to practice as a Dietitian/Nutritionist by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition.

She has practiced professionally for over 30 years in her Private Practice. Throughout her career, she has held leadership roles in public health, foodservice management, college and university education, consulting, and counseling.

Mary has served as a Board member for the national Nutrition Entrepreneurs Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Dietetics & Nutrition; North Carolina Dietetic Association (NCDA); NCDA Foundation; and Durham-Chapel Hill Dietetic Association (DCHDA). She is a recipient of NCDA's and DCHDA’s highest honors in recognition of distinguished service and visionary leadership at the national, state, and district levels.
